Our Policies

Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy

This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is a response to Section 54(1), Part 6 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and relates to the commercial actions and activities of The West Country Farm Shop. It sets out the steps that TWCFS has taken to identify, mitigate and prevent slavery or slavery-like practices, forced labour and human trafficking from taking place in any part of our business or our supply chains.

TWCFS is committed to ensuring equality in the workplace and to preventing slavery and human trafficking violations in its operations, supply chain and products. Being a responsible business is not only the right thing to do ethically, it is also good for the long-term sustainability of our business.  We have a zero-tolerance approach towards slavery and require our supply chain to comply with our values. We believe in the following overriding principles:

  • Employment is freely chosen

  • There must be no forced, bonded or involuntary labour

  • Employees must not be required to lodge monies or identity papers in order to work

  • Working conditions are safe and hygienic

  • Child labour shall not be used

  • National Minimum Wage & Living wages are paid

  • Working hours are not excessive

  • No discrimination is practiced

Business Operations

TWCFS is based in London. We are a family-owned business. We work with a number of key direct suppliers, who provide us with goods and services such as meat, poultry, dairy produce, eggs and marmalade.

Due diligence, risk & compliance.

We take all allegations of slavery and human trafficking seriously. As part of our efforts to monitor and reduce the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring in our supply chains, we make a point of knowing our suppliers well and visiting their farms and points of manufacture. This enables us to monitor, identify and act on  potential risks in our supply chains, thus reducing the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring. Were there to be evidence of a failure to comply with our expectations, we will seek to terminate our relationship with that supplier without delay.

TWCFS has evaluated the nature and extent of its exposure to the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring. We do not consider that we operate in a high-risk environment because the majority of our supply chain is based in the UK and in low-risk industries.
